Geotechnical Engineer
1. How long have you been with Groundwork Plus?
I started with Groundwork Plus just over one month ago, so I’m pretty much the new guy! Prior to that, I was Site Senior Executive at the Roma Quarry, and spent 8 years working as a mine geologist in the underground coal mines of Central QLD.
2. What is your role at Groundwork Plus and what does it entail?
My role at Groundwork Plus is Geotechnical Engineer, which involves a good amount of field work inspecting the ground conditions at different quarries, as well as writing a number of reports including ground control management plans. Coming from a background in geology, I am also involved with resource definition drilling.
3. What are your areas of particular interest or your proudest accomplishment?
I think at this point in time my favourite part of the job would have to be the variety of work that’s involved. One day I could be supervising a drill rig and collecting chip samples, the next day I could be conducting a site visit for a ground control management plan and the day after that could involve designing a haul road for a new quarry.
4. What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?
Some of my favourite things to do on the weekend would be heading out into the forest to ride down some singletrack on my mountain bike or going away camping with my partner and dog to some place in the middle of nowhere.
