Mark Folker
Senior Environmental Engineer
1. How long have you been with Groundwork Plus?
I have been working at Groundwork Plus for around 5.5 years, commencing in September 2015. My background and qualifications are in civil & environmental engineering, and I also worked previously in the land development and environmental sustainability industries.
2. What is your role at Groundwork Plus, and what does it entail?
I work primarily in stormwater management and engineering design of surface water treatment systems for our clients. This encompasses anything from diversion drains and culverts, to silt traps and sediment basins and dams. I also undertake hydrology and hydraulic modelling to design infrastructure and verify performance against industry and compliance standards.
3. What are your areas of particular interest or your proudest accomplishment?
I am always up for a good technical challenge, and in particular I enjoy working on sites that have complex surface water catchments or ‘legacy matters’ arising from many years of operation under evolving legislation and compliance requirements. I’m always glad to assist site operators and quarry managers in meeting their stormwater management obligations.
4. What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?
Outside of work I’m spending time with family and friends, and enjoy camping whenever possible. Over recent years I have designed and manufactured a number of coffee brewing products, and on weekends I’m always keen to get out for some field testing (i.e drinking coffee) on a trail or hike somewhere. In reality, the ‘hike’ is usually just the next kids’ friends party or the their favourite park.
