Have You Met Joe Vivash?

Joe Vivash

Senior Geological and Engineering Designer

1. How long have you been with Groundwork Plus?

I have been with Groundwork Plus for just over 1.5 years. Prior to Groundwork Plus I worked in 3D modelling, engineering design and drafting for mechanical, electrical and hydraulics building services engineering for around 14 years, working on many new residential high-rises, university, government and hospital buildings we see in our cities and towns.

2. What is your role at Groundwork Plus, and what does it entail?

As a Geological and Engineering Designer I am able to utilise my 3D modelling, drafting and engineering experience to problem solve and work on many features for our quarry projects such as haul roads, overburden structures, earthworks, ramps, flat pads, manufacturing plant layouts, site works, and any 2D/3D drafting or spatial mapping requirements for the geoscience, geotechnical, environmental science and planning teams.

3. What are your areas of particular interest or your proudest accomplishment?

Science, engineering, and learning are my greatest passions, understanding ‘why and how’ is a massive driving force in my life. I love to read books by astronomers, astrophysicists, and thinkers such as Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, Richard Feynman, and Brian Greene. So, then I am not surprised that my proudest accomplishment was when I graduated from university, having studied Geology and graduating with distinction was an amazing feeling. I followed my passions in what I studied and feel like I conquered Everest in doing so.

4. What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?

I love the outdoors! Every weekend I am either chilling on the beach at the Sunshine Coast or blazing up a walking/hiking track somewhere. Every Sunday afternoon I spend time catching up with my parents and their two little pomeranians Humphrey and Lilly. I like having minimal plans on the weekends except the plan to really unwind, enjoy the company of my partner and family, relax, revitalise, take in nature and enjoy a nice sunset.
