Catherine Young
Data System Manager
1. How long have you been with Groundwork Plus?
I have been working with Groundwork since 2008, nearly 12 years! I started as an admin assistant. I really wanted to choose the company I worked for, and I loved the sound of Groundwork Plus, the industry and their values, so I decided to work my way in from the bottom. Using my Science degree, I joined the Groundwork Environmental team in 2010 and since have worked as a field technician, field coordinator and my latest role, Data Systems Manager. Groundwork Plus is like family now.
2. What is your role at Groundwork Plus, and what does it entail?
My current role is Data System Manager, where I am responsible for the development and management of our online data platform GPlus Live. Currently, we are in an exciting growth phase, and I am meeting with prospective clients, setting up new sites and updating the system as needed.
3. What are your areas of particular interest or your proudest accomplishment?
I love innovation and design and I am very proud of how I have used these interests and my knowledge of environmental monitoring, especially in the extractive industry, to take GPlus Live to where it is now, a useful, innovative tool to assist the industry.
4. What is your favourite way to spend a weekend?
My dream weekend would involve packing up the 4WD with my husband and two dogs, driving down a secluded beach, setting up camp and snorkelling all day! Alas, I can’t do this every weekend so most weekends I enjoy my rural lifestyle in the bush west of Brisbane, training for my first triathlon(!), gardening, cooking, sketching, hanging out with friends and trail running.
